You and Your First Visit
Pain. Most people make their first appointment with a chiropractor because they are in some degree of discomfort. Principally, chiropractors are known for treating subluxations. A subluxation is the improper position of bones forming a joint. These abnormal positions of the joint can produce pain, and in some cases inflammation, nerve irritation, muscle spasms, numbness and tingling, and loss of joint motion.A chiropractor is uniquely qualified to detect and treat subluxations. The examination, assessment, and diagnosis of an injury occurs during the initial visit. Dr. Pistilli generally locates the subluxation by palpation and motioning of the injured region, although sometimes x-rays are of assistance in diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is complete, in most cases, Dr. Pistilli will begin treatment of the joint dysfunction by repositioning it through a manipulation, also called an adjustment.
